Went in Jan 2023 with our two kids age 6 and 18 months. Everything felt like a struggle; there were never enough high chairs for the baby so we often had to feed her on our lap, the staff seemed stressed and unfriendly, we had to call on several occasions that they hadn’t come to clean the room by dinner time, the beach was not nice with essentially no sand for the baby to play in, renting any water sports was next to impossible. The food was not good at all. I will say our 6 year old had a blast in the kids pool, and he loved seeing the iguanas and the shows, but for us it wasn’t a good trip. I would not recommend this location.

Arriving at the hotel we were exhausted from our flights. The front desk was was friendly. We upgraded to premium level (don’t do this). We went to book our restaurants with our premium status as well as babysitting at nights nothing was available. We were able to book babysitting and the woman helping us told us to call and confirm the day of. We called 6 times today and still no confirmation. We went down to the front desk and they promised us they would call us regarding helping us get as reservation at one of the restaurants as well as confirming our babysitters. I gave them both my cell and my husbands. No call. Still no reservation. Still no babysitter. I asked if we could get our money back from upgrading to premium since we aren’t able to use any of the benefits it comes with and they said no. Don’t waste your money. I would not book this hotel. It is not worth it. The buffet is gross, staff nice. The rooms are meh.

Clean and well maintained resort. Staff attentive and friendly. Family oriented with great layout. The only downside is the beach very rocky and uneven so even with water shoes its a challenge and can hurt you if you not extremely careful as it has large protruding rocks which are not visible. The resort does compensate with large pools. Beach Bar service is a bit slow as one Bar per resort on the beach side for pools and Beach so lineups to get a drink. Should definitely have a beach bar like some of the other 5 star resorts. Good food , selection and taste in the buffet. Got the superior room it was roomy and modern no issues. Resort had 3 floors with an Elevator so great if you have kids or Elderly. One note heard folks requested cribs for their kids and there were none so have a backup plan as no guarantee you will get a crib for your kid if you need one.

1. The check in is not good. Very little information about the resort. The resort is massive and they don’t tell you about anything. Not very accommodating. We ended up getting a room across from the theater. Very loud from 9-11pm. We can hear the shows from our room. We have 2 kids and they wouldn’t let us change rooms. I find this very upsetting. The next day we tried to change rooms and they told us if we wanted to change rooms we would have to pack everything up, check out and then re check back in but then we weren’t guaranteed another room... 2. Right after check in we went to make reservations for dinner for the week. Only could get into three dinners out of seven nights. We were told they were booked. Ridiculous as we just arrived. 3. Food is mediocre and service for drinks is not good. My worst complaint. Lobby bar, swim up bar, any bar you try and go to it’s a wait. 10 minutes for a drink. Not enough bartenders for the amount of people at the resort. There were times I just walked away cause I couldn’t get drinks.. 4. Not impressed with rooms. Feels like you’re in a hotel room. Small. We stayed in the colonial side. 5. The outside area is very nice. The pool & waterpark are good. The beach and the ocean is wonderful. No seaweed. Very well maintained beach. Everything outside is nice. Everything inside not so nice. We have two kids so we are trying to make the best out of the vacation for them. However we have stayed at better resorts. I give honest reviews and I wouldn’t recommend staying here. It may have been different if they had better guest service.

Good- Resort was very large staff was friendly, beaches were beautiful, lots of fish by the reefs. Pool bars and bartenders were great, lots of fun with swim up bars . Strikers has a great breakfast and lunch with real chicken breast strips . Maid service was great! We had room cleaned everyday. Leave a tip your room will sparkle. Bad-When we arrived tipped front bell men to bring our bag to room. Thirty minutes later no bags. Husband had to walk back down and get our bags not five star. The food at Kyoto & Capri was terrible almost not edible. Cut into the lobster and it fell on the floor it was so rubbery. Room smelled musty and AC made loud noise. Front Desk would not move us but did fix the loud AC fan in room. Tips-Make your reservation for dinner when you arrive. Go early to watersports (only four kayaks available for six resorts) but It was fun to take them out on the ocean. ATM to the right of check in.

The service is BEYOND excellent. Macario and Fernando in particular were extremely good waiters/servers: not a minute went by where either one of them wasn’t tending to our needs. Whenever we asked for something, they would be very quick to bring it out. Definitely worth the visit to go here.

Our waitresses Addy and Francesca were the best! They were so helpful & kind! Here at Kyoto has amazing amazing food that will leave you super satisfied! I recommend coming to this restaurant located in Barceló Maya Colonial!! 🔥🤍

Very nice place for vacation. Room were very clean and comfortable. Food was delicious, service was great, pools, entertainment was good. Gardens was clean and keep in good shape. The beach is big and beautiful. It was seaweeds on it and the stuff was working night and day to clean it up . Thank to hard working and friendly people for making our vacation pleasant and memorable.

Restaurant Kyoto was an amazing experience, our chef Sandra Juarez, our waitress Francisca Deara, Addy Chan, and the supervisor Miguel Moo made our experience wonderful. They provided excellent service to me and my family. The food was fresh and delicious. Thank you team for the wonderful experience, we would definitely come back thanks to these amazing people.

A Seafood Restaurant wouldn’t be my first choice, BUT Jorge, Carlos and Alberto were all fantastic. Very enjoyable staff, and very quick! I ordered lamb chops and they were delicious. My wife really enjoyed the shrimp as well. Very cool place!

Wow. Love this place! Awesome swimming pools. The beach is silky and the snorkeling is full of sea creatures. I gained at least 5 pounds from the delicious restaurants and buffets. The beds are comfy and the staff is friendly. But you want to know the highlight? Laura and Danny, the fantastic Zumba/yoga/water aerobics instructors. I will miss them most of all! They really made this feel like a home away from home. Make it a point to meet them!

We stayed here in 2019 and are planning a return in 2021. We absolutely loved this resort. The only complaint we had was that they did not serve alcohol until noon and the swim up bar shut down at like 7pm. We hoped to enjoy a Bloody Mary or Mimosa with our breakfast but could not. I would like to know if that is normal for just this resort or for all resorts. Or was it just because of the time of year that we were there (September). Seems odd for an all-inclusive resort.

The resort location and food is what make this place other than that we were not fans. The service was terrible. Maids often did not clean our rooms and we had to call to get more toilet paper and clean towels. The drinks were weak and full of syrup instead of natural flavoring (like lime juice). The rooms are all in desperate need of upgrade as well. They were clean but needed serious repair. There were actual holes in bottom of the door frames with water leaking out of the. The sliding glass door barely moved properly and the screws that held the top lock on were literally falling out. We expected a lot more for a Barcelo resort and were treated sub par even though we are Occidental members. Definitely would not recommend for the price tag.
